The role of ultrasonic pulse width modulation in loss reduction

Author(s): Alemayehu T Mekonnen and Selamawit D Abebe

Abstract: The growing demand for high-efficiency power electronics has led to the exploration of innovative modulation techniques for inverters. Ultrasonic Pulse Width Modulation (UPWM) has emerged as a promising approach to minimize switching losses and improve the overall efficiency of inverter systems. This study investigates the role of UPWM in loss reduction, focusing on its potential in low-loss inverter design. Through theoretical analysis, simulation, and experimental validation, the research highlights the advantages of UPWM over conventional pulse width modulation (PWM) techniques in reducing power losses. The findings indicate that UPWM can significantly enhance inverter efficiency, making it suitable for applications in renewable energy systems, electric vehicles, and other high-efficiency power conversion applications.
